Overview
The spatial platform for renewable energy in the GCC countries. A geospatial platform that reviews the open spatial data of renewable energy indicators and drops them on the GCC map through a set of technical tools through GIS. The platform shows a set of useful indicators for choosing the right place to build green stations such as average daily energy production from the source of solar radiation, wind energy, the average optimal angle of solar panels in the various GCC regions and governorates and other indicators. The platform shows the average wind speed at different altitudes and the amount of produced energy. As it also provides statistics for the GCC countries separately. The spatial platform is linked to an open-source database of wind speed and direction through stations spread in the GCC countries with daily updates via a single international database that continuously updates numbers. It also contains statistical reports prepared by the GCC-STAT, in addition to graphs of the data, in order to facilitate the process of following-up and viewing.
Objectives of the platform
- display of renewable energy data of the GCC States in a consolidated database.
- Take advantage of open spatial data by displaying the statistical indicators related to the GCC countries.
- Development of policies and strategies among GCC Countries through interactive maps in the use of natural energy resources
Statistical concepts
- Renewable Energy: is the energy gained from natural processes that are constantly renewed.
- Solar Energy: solar rays used in hot water production and electricity generation.
- Solar Thermal Energy: It consists of solar thermal electric stations or flat-plate assembly devices.
- Photovoltaic Solar Energy: which converts solar rays into electricity through solar cells.
- Wind Energy: a form of renewable energy in which turbines convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical or electrical energy.
